SA singer, Simphiwe Dana officially confirmed in November this year that she’s gay. The star took to Twitter and spoke about how Africans might choose to block her due to her stand.
She further revealed her plans of getting married to the woman, whose photo she shared.
After much observation, the woman is named Pumeza Matshikiza, and she’s an international opera singer. “I know coming out means Africa will block me. But, after a lot of thinking, I’m ok with it. I’m marrying a woman, and I’ve never been happier.
She is 41 years old and hails for the Eastern Cape. The Bomako hitmaker amazed legion of her fans when she revealed that she is a gay woman and that she has been keeping this a secret for far too long. “I’ve been holding this in since forever. I’m gay,” she revealed.
Aware of the stigma that still plagues the African community, she tweeted that she is aware that she might get blocked. After a lot of thinking, she finally realised that she is much happier with the secret out.

She is an international opera singer
Matshikiza is an international opera singer based in Berlin, Germany according to her Instagram profile. She has performed in many countries around Europe. Dana posted a picture of her two weeks ago, praising her work and her big moves in the opera world by playing both Bess and Serena in the opera play Porgy and Bess.
Praising Mathshikiza, Dana said: “Say legend in the making with me! Putting South Africa, Africa, on the map!”
She is a lead star too:
Porgy and Bess is not the first lead opera roles she has played. Her career features starring roles in La Bohème, featuring in concerts that have celebrated Mozart and performing alongside popular opera singer Rolando Villazón.
